LOCATION
The location of this property is in Xewkija that is very typical gozitan village. Xewkija is the oldest village in Gozo and is best known for its awesome rotunda, the circular church at the centre of the village. Gozo’s largest church, its dome is a distinctive landmark visible across much of the island.
Restaurants and local shops are all about 5 minutes to 15 minutes walking distance. Ir-Rabat (Victoria) is the capital city of the island of Gozo which is about 20 mins away walking distance. The name Victoria was given to the town in 1887 in honour of the famous British Queen’s Golden Jubilee. At the same time, the town was raised to the status of a city becoming officially known as Citta’ ir-Rabat (Victoria).
On the coast beyond the village lies the beautiful unspoilt Mġarr ix-Xini Valley and access to the peaceful Bay of Mġarr ix-Xini which is a lovely place to swim, snorkel and dive. Ix-Xewkija is an ideal base for walking as well as abseiling in winter and spring. Also close to the village are a variety of important modern Gozo institutions including the University of Malta (Gozo Campus), the Gozo Football Stadium and the island’s Industrial Estate.
There are many places of historical and cultural interest in ir-Rabat (Victoria). A visit to the Citadel is a must. Its towering fortifications afford superb views over the whole Island and within the Citadel are many of the main historical sites of ir-Rabat (Victoria) including the The Cathedral Museum, the Museum of Archaeology, the Folklore Museum, the Gozo Nature Museum, the Old Prison, the Old Gunpowder Magazine, the Grain Silos, the Battery and the World War II Shelter.
Useful Information
Between the last weekend of May up to the 2nd weekend of September every village of the Island celebrates their local feast accompanied with bands and processions and also lots of fireworks. One can find the “qubbajd” a local sweet make in rectangural blocks especially for the local village feasts and also the traditional “granita” a very well chilled strawberry flavoured drink.
